Project 5: Advance from the current “gold-standard” methods for EV isolation, Further develop methods for characterising EVs and Investigating means to exploit EVs for clinical application
Host Institution: Semmelweis University, Hungary
Alicia Galinsoga was born in Alicante, on the south-east coast of Spain. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. During her Bachelor’s she was awarded a European Mobility Scholarship and she moved to Padova, in Italy. During her studies, she was doing internships in several laboratories and hospitals such as Biopharma’s laboratory in Aspe and Cancer Research Unit at the General Hospital of Alicante. When she completed her degree, she decided to move to Great Britain to enhance her English language skills at Sussex Down College, in Lewes. After a year in England, she returned to Spain to further her studies with a Master’s degree in Reproductive Medicine and Genetics at the University of Miguel Hernandez in Alicante, researching fertility preservation in cancer patients. During this time, she did several internships at Vistahermosa Clinic in Alicante and the University hospital (CHHUV) in Valencia. After graduation, she moved to Dublin (Ireland) for work, later applying for the Early Stage Research (ESR) PhD position Marie Sklodowska-Curie TRAIN-EV program of Training in Extracellular Vesicles. She feels honoured to be one of PhD Students at the Semmelweis University, Budapest (Hungary).
Why are you doing a PhD?
She is doing a PhD because she has always been fascinated by biomedicine and cancer research. She desires to achieve her goals in this field and develop new strategies and tools. She strongly believes ESR PhD position Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action TRAIN-EV program is a unique chance for professional growth and a great opportunity to interact with the latest methodology in Extracellular Vesicles.
Her main interests are sports such as cycling, running, swimming, hiking and other outdoor activities. She also loves travelling, meeting people with different cultural backgrounds and reading.
